I needed to get the aging male juices moving. Derring-do, epic fighting, ale, spirits and reluctant aging heroes. This and book 1 represent the best in the lighter side of fantasy. Funny, hilarious and entertaining. I loved the 7 virtues series but the author's work since has been so dark and depressing, I couldn't finish the books even though they were well written.This series gives me hope that some of the lighter themes will permeate his other books.
